People who give up will never get to cross the line. The following individuals never gave up on their dreams despite the numerous seemingly insurmountable obstacles they came across. We surely have a lot to learn from them if we are to become what we were meant to be.
Authors, Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen were rejected more than 77 times for their IDEA Chicken Soup for the Soul. However, in spite of the many rejections they never threw the idea away. Instead they remained hopeful and continued to persevere and you know what – The 78th publisher said “Yes” to publishing their book and the book has sold well over 100 million copies. Are they different from other humans? What was their secret? They simply persevered and stayed the course until they obtained the results they desired.
The other interesting example of sheer determination was Irving Stone’s biography of Vincent Van Gogh, Lust for Life, was said to have been rejected by seventeen publishers before it was eventually published. It became a best seller and sold over twenty-six million copies .
The first children’s book by Doctor Seuss received twenty seven rejections, but because he did not give up, eventually he succeeded and now his books have sold over two hundred million copies in sales. Wow! Success does not come easily.
In 1832, he was a 22 year old business failure.
That same year he ran for the legislative and was defeated.
In 1833, he was a business failure once again.
Overcame the death of his sweetheart at age 35
In 1836, he was said to have suffered a nervous breakdown.
In 1838, he lost in an effort to become Speaker of the House in the State Legislature.
Five years later, he ran for congress – again it was in vain.
In 1846, he ran for Congress and won – only to lose his re-election bid 1848.
He ran for the Senate in 1854, and lost.
He ran for the Vice-presidential nomination in 1856, and lost that too.
In 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the 16th President of the United States.
The man appeared a failure and a hopeless case, I am sure some even called him Mr Loser. Ninety eight percent of us would surely have adviced him to call it quits. The question is how did Abraham manage to remain tenacious in the face of all these abstacles? The man believed in his God given abilities and was prepared to wait for his time to come so much that failures were just temporary.
Today, the world does not ask how much time it took him to succeed instead they ask, “How did he manage to keep frustration at bay and remain focused?” Lincoln is still remembered as one of the greatest presidents ever of the United States.
My friend, may be you are facing challenges or failures in your Network business or whatever project you are working on, and giving up has crossed your mind. May I remind you that anything worthwhile has never been easy to accomplish. It takes determination and resilience to keep moving towards the goal that you have set for yourself. It’s always too soon to quit.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
