The world is the way it is because of individuals who sacrificed everything to make it a better one. Can you visualize a world without risk takers, sometimes known as movers and shakers. ..it would be undeveloped and boring indeed.
The demise of Steve Jobs made me reflect on the impact this man’s life has had the world over. The risks and the sacrifices he made to bring the inventions to fruition as co-founder of apple, have undoubtedly transformed the way the world is now communicating. The world as we know it has been altered forever. Among other things, it has made networking with others easier, especially businessess . Its a wonder how the world managed to conduct its affairs without some of these inventions like the iPod, the iPad and the iPhone. The indespensibilty of these modern gadgets is unquestionable.
The successes achieved by Steve Jobs are worthwhile lessons for today’s entrepreneur. You maybe an internet networker or operating a brick and mortar business and you are struggling and you’re tempted to quit, remember that Steve managed to achieve his dreams despite his background. Steve was diagnosed with cancer some 30 years ago and was unwell most of the time and yet his greatest inventions were made in the last ten years. The disease in his body did not deter him from persuing his dream though it was a big enough excuse to throw in the towel. Would you have persisted working on your dream if you knew you had a terminal disease?
Let me provide you with a few names of other ‘super achievers’..inventors who fall in my category of world changers. These are individuals who changed the world in a positive way:
Bill Gates envisioned a world in which every home has a computer that is connected to the Internet. The results and usefulness of the internet is there for everyone to see and enjoy. As a result people are actually making several thousands if not millions of dollars using the power of the web.
The late John F. Kennedy dreamed of putting a man on the moon, and it came to pass.
Alexander Fleming invented penicillin, resulting in a host of life saving antibiotics.
Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed of a country free of prejudice and racial injustice, this too came to pass.
Buckminister Fuller dreamed of a world where everybody had access to electrical power.
Thomas Edison lights our homes and lives everyday .
William Wilberforce, the reformist dedicated his entire life to the abolition of slavery and the slave trade.
Nelson Mandela spent 28 years of his life in jail fighting racial descrimination and injustice.
Life is difficult, and that’s the way things are. The individual achievers who are celebrated in all civilisations are those who knew what they wanted and fought to the bitter end to attain it.
Let me leave you with this quote: “If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise.” -Robert Fritz author of The Path of Least Resistance.
