The following people proved to the world that one does not need eyesight to fulfill his/her life purpose. It’s amazing the number of people who believe that vision means eyesight.
Jose Feliciano from Puerto Rico proved that you don’t need eyesight to achieve your dream. Not only was he born poor, he was also blind. Some of the neighbors suggested that he get a cup and beg for money like blind people were supposed to do, but Jose refused. He found an old piece of guitar and taught himself how to play. He practiced day and night, and sometimes until his fingers bled. Today Jose Feliciano is considered one of the greatest guitarist of all time. He wrote a popular Christmas song called Feliz Navidad.
Helen Keller became blind and deaf at the age of 19 months, yet she became one of the greatest women of all times. She too proved to us all that you don’t need eyesight to make your dreams come true. She is credited with the quote,” The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.”
Stevie Wonder’s achievements need no reminding. He too proved beyond any doubt that you don’t need eyesight to achieve greatness. Steve was also born poor and blind in Saginaw, Michigan. He had a vision (NOT EYESIGHT) to become great. He kept trying until he was discovered and signed by Motown Records. The rest is history , as they say.
Ray Charles started losing his sight at the age of five. His mother didn’t have the money to take him to a specialist, and he eventually went blind. He could have given up, but he decided to fight for his dream. He went on to become an American icon, was a legendary musician who pioneered the genre of soul music during the 1950’s. Often called the “Father of Soul,” Charles combined blues, gospel and jazz to create groundbreaking hits such as “Unchain My Heart,” “Hit the Road Jack” ; “Georgia on My Mind;” and “My Jesus Is All the World to Me”.
