Those of us who have been around long enough know that adversities are always going to be a part of the equation of life on this planet earth. However, the question for you is how will you handle hard times (NOT IF) but when they do show up. Will you rise to the challenge ? Will you allow the situation to break you or bring a breakthrough in your life?
Today , I would like us to look at the life of one individual who turned pain into passion. (You can call it “Monetizing life experiences” if you want”). I hope it will impact your life as it did mine.
Charles Plumb was a U.S Nay jet pilot, his plane was destroyed by a surface-to-air missile. Plumb ejected and parachuted into enemy hands. He was captured and spent 2103 days in a communist Vietnamese prison camp. He survived the ideal and now travels the world sharing on lessons learned from that experience. He is the author of two books – ‘I’m No Hero and ‘The Lost Domino’.
Charles made a choice to be better and not bitter. He could have taken the easier way out of depending on the welfare system since he was a veteran, understandably so, but he chose to share his story to encourage others to use life experiences to make the world a better place.
Everybody has a story but oftentimes, maybe due to ignorance or self- doubt you are afraid and wonder whether anyone will listen to your story. My challenge is simple: Just do it, start by sharing your story to a someone who is discouraged and see what happens. Don’t underestimate the power of your life story. Someone is stuck in a valley and is about to give up, someone is depressed; discouraged; hopeless and helpless. You never know who might be saved by your personal experience. Who knows, maybe your purpose is hidden in your experience.
Let’s endevour to use our different life experiences to uplift others.
I will leave you with this wonderful quote:
“Your past experiences are valuable lessons to you now, learn from them. Oh Yes, the past can hurt, but you can either run from it, or learn from it. —–Rafiki, from The Lion King movie.
This is my story and I’m sticking to it folks!
